Antibodies featured in the image look like IgG. "Natural" anti-A and anti-B antibodies are generally IgM. IgM would cause agglutination of RBCs. IgG anti-A or anit-B would not agglutinate RBCs, in plasma or serum, because electrical forces would repel the RBCs so that RBCs would not link to each other via small IgG antibodies. IgG anti-A and IgG antibodies would bind to RBCs, which may be hemolysed or taken up by the RE system. In the Coombs test the situation is different, because anti-human IgG antibodies bind to humun IgG antbodies on the RBC surface to cause agglutination. Snowman 13:39, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
