Bloomfield is a city in Davis County, Iowa, United States. The population was 2,601 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Davis CountyGR6.

Bloomfield is located in southeastern Iowa near the border with Missouri at the junction of U.S. Highway 63 and Iowa Highway 2. Surrounding towns include: Drakesville (northwest), Ottumwa (north), Centerville (west), and Pulaski (southeast).

The Davis County Fair is held every year at the fairgrounds, west of Bloomfield, sometime in July. This year it is going to be July 10th-17th and is the 143rd year of the fair.

Bloomfield is located at GR1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.0 km² (2.3 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (1.30%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,601 people, 1,123 households, and 668 families residing in the city. The population density was 442.4/km² (1,145.0/mi²). There were 1,228 housing units at an average density of 208.9/km² (540.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.54% White, 0.12% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.19% Asian, 0.15% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.38% of the population.
There were 1,123 households out of which 25.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.5% were non-families. 36.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.84.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.8% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 26.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 82.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 77.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,471, and the median income for a family was $44,073. Males had a median income of $25,260 versus $23,686 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,962. About 3.9% of families and 8.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.3% of those under age 18 and 8.6% of those age 65 or over.
