[edit] Music
The music of bloodsimple infuses brutal hardcore and metalcore sounds with more melodic alternative rock and nu-metal elements.
bloodsimple's sound mixes the violence of Pantera with the melodic melancholy of Alice in Chains. It also contains nu metal trappings, along with traces of dual guitar sounds generally associated with the Gothenburg metal scene.
The band’s sound can be attributed in part to its diverse influences. Vocalist Tim Williams cites Layne Staley and Jim Morrison as influences, alongside Phil Anselmo; while the band claims to be influenced by Radiohead, Portishead and the The Doors, alongside Slayer, Pantera, Mastodon, and Metallica.
[edit] History
bloodsimple was formed in 2002 by vocalist Tim Williams and guitarist Mike Kennedy. Williams and Kennedy had previously been in seminal hardcore outfit Vision of Disorder (“V.O.D.”) for more than 10 years. bloodsimple was originally planned as a V.O.D side project, but ultimately became the main project after dissatisfaction with the direction of V.O.D led it into an extended hiatus.
bloodsimple's sound carries on, to some extent, in the direction of V.O.D's last release, From Bliss to Devastation, which blended more commercial alternative rock elements with hardcore sounds.
The band’s name was taken from Blood Simple, the debut motion picture by the Coen Brothers.
Williams and Kennedy searched for further members for the new band, eventually recruiting guitarist Nick Rowe and drummer Chris Hamilton. Hamilton subsequently introduced the band to bassist Kyle Sanders and the band’s line-up was complete.
bloodsimple came to the attention of Mudvayne’s Chad Gray, after friend Hamilton gave him the band's demo. After opening for Mudvayne in Philadelphia, Gray signed the band as the first artist on his Bullygoat Records imprint on Warner Bros Records [1].
The band’s debut outing A Cruel World was recorded with GGGarth Richardson in Vancouver, Canada.
bloodsimple toured in support of Mudvayne in April and May of 2005, then toured with Static-X and American Head Charge later that summer.
In late May/early June of 2006, it has been reported that drummer Chris Hamilton was to leave the band. This information has been confirmed by the band on their Myspace page more than two months later. No replacements have been announced so far.
In October of 2004, bloodsimple performed at Loud Park Festival with Kyle Sander's brother and his band, Mastodon; also along with Slayer, In Flames, and numerous others.
[edit] bloodsimple goes 2.0
As of September 2006, bloodsimple has formed a collaboration with newly established internet management and marketing company BuddyLube, in response to the outburst of social networks and web 2.0 based technologies. The 21st century has ushered in a new era of digital interconnectedness which has revolutionized the way bands can communicate with their fans. In response, bloodsimple is currently engaged in a collaborative effort with Eventful in an attempt to create the first of what are being called User Generated Tours. Other new web 2.0 based technologies that bloodsimple are utilizing include Snapvine, a voice-player widget and Umundo, a video-player widget. Examples of these widgets can be found on their MySpace page.
