Blood & Magic is a computer game released by Interplay in 1997. It was the first real-time strategy game to be set in the AD&D world of Forgotten Realms, and the second licensed D&D real-time strategy game (the first was Stronghold).

[edit] Features

  • 5 unique realms, each with its own unique landscape and exotic magical items to manipulate
  • Fantastic weapons, treasure chests, magical potions and violent spells await your discovery
  • Command and battle 30 unique AD&D Forgotten Realms characters and monsters
  • Simple point-and-click interface lets you focus on the strategies it takes to win.

[edit] Gameplay

The basic units of the game are the Basal Golems, which are created at the Bloodforge. They provide mana for the production of new units and can be turned into buildings or monsters. When four are placed on a foundation, they may transform into a mystical site dedicated to the deity of the player’s choosing. Placing a Basal Golem adjacent to a friendly mystical site will allow them to change into a different creature, based on the type of mystical site. The player automatically is only able to use the weakest transformation, and can unlock more by researching. Researching costs experience, this is gained by creating or transforming Basal Golems, creating or destroying structures, casting spells, and slaying enemies.

[edit] The Juggernaut

The most powerful unit in the game albeit not useable by the player is the 'Juggernaut' A large Robot with a skull shaped head that is first encountered in the 'Nuts & Bolts' Section of the campaign section of the game which is of the 'medium' difficulty. It is the most powerful melee and ranged attacks in the game and can kill almost any unit in one hit. It cannot be turned to stone by the 'Medusa' unit unlike all other units in the game.
