Bliss (comics)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bliss is a fictional character in the DC Comics' universe. A minor Incubus who entered the earth realm in either the late 19th century of the early 20th century, Bliss owned a traveling circus and ran a Freak show. With help of his henchman, the Crusher, he kidnapped the freaks and kept them as slaves and fed off of their misery and suffering until they died. He refers to his victims as "his children" and is quite protective of them, willing to kill anyone who would try and separate them from him. He also has the ability to temporarily mind control them. Most notable among his captives, was the former Starman, Mikaal Tomas.

Bliss was finally defeated when Jack Knight discovered Bliss' secret and did battle for not only the freedom of the freaks, but for his very life. During the battle, Jack discovers that hope is the only way to defeat Bliss, and he soon convinces the freak show members to have hope and believe they will be freed of Bliss. In the end, when the feeling of hope has reached a critical mass, Jack plunges the Cosmic Rod into Bliss heart, presumably sending him back to hell. Before Bliss disappeared, his final words wear "my children.....why have you forsaken me".

Though he appears human, when in his true form he more closely resembles a frog.

It is apparent that he has been running the freak show for many years, and he was apparently friends with Johnny Sorrow in the 1940s, and was the first person to ever mention him. but apart from that, very little is known about Bliss past.

Bliss should not be confused with the other comic book character of the same name, Bliss
