Shoots and Ladders (1995) |
"Blind" is the first single by American nu-metal band Korn. It appears on their self-titled debut album.
The first version of this song has been recorded on band's demo entitled Neidermeyer's Mind released in 1993. There is slight difference between these versions, the primal version had more heavy-metal feeling, and the version that appeared on band's debut LP featured hip-hop stylized bridge. The lyrics in this song are considered to be some of the best of Korn's.

[edit] Origin
It is one of the songs Jonathan Davis has written with his former band-mate from Sexart, guitarist Ryan Shuck, and the fact that Korn has used this song on his album without crediting him almost led to case in court.
The end of the song also features an uncredited Cypress Hill riff.

[edit] Possible meaning
A reference to Jonathan Davis's drug use during his early years.
"Another place I find to escape the pain inside"
The drugs controlled his life. They provided an escape from the pain he endured as a young adult, and he couldn't see any future direction for himself.
"If I can't see through the grey that clouds my mind, this time I look to see what's between the lines"
He wants to escape the confusion in his mind but his self esteem is so low that he is not confident enough to make change for himself. He wants to leave the world and start again but he doesn't know how, so he uses drugs to distort reality.
