Blechnaceae is a family of ferns, the Pteridophyta. Within the family there are nine genera including Blechnum, the Hard Ferns, and Woodwardia, the chain ferns. The family includes some 240 species. Mostly ground dwelling, some are climbers, such as Stenochlaena. They are distributed worldwide. A characteristic feature is that the young opening leaves are usually tinged with red.
