[edit] Correct Dating
I have with me three books. The first one: Malevich: Suprematism and Revolution in Russian Art 1910-1920-Larissa A. Zhadova states that Black Circle was painted sometime after 1920, the book itself was published in 1978. The second book: Malevich-Serge Fauchereau, published in 1992, states that the composition was painted in 1913, and labeled 1923-29. Finally, the third and most recent (2003) book, Kazimir Malevich: Suprematism-Matthew Drutt, states that the painting as a 1915 work. Correct dating of this work is critical, because it may or may not predate Mondrain's first completely non-representational works. Jansen writes that black circle, exhibited in 1915, was painted in 1913. --Mr. Moogle
