Blatz was a punk band formed in 1989 in Berkeley California. Blatz came out of the 924 Gilman Street Project scene during the late 80s, and early 90s with bands like Operation Ivy, Filth, and Green Day.

Known for their in your face lyrics, filled with sarcasm, irony, humor, masturbation and drugs. They only have toured southern California, Arizona and Reno Nevada. They mostly played shows at 924 Gilman, as well as practiced there. They took the name Blatz after one of the cheapest Beer available in the US. Blatz came to life when Joey & Eggplant walked to a party on acid where Sweet Children(later to be Green Day) were playing for James "Brainstew" Washburn. Their first show they played with John Santos, a high school drinking buddy. After he quit they got Marshall Stax to play bass. At the time Marshall volunteered as sound engineer at the Gilman as well as a DJ for Berkeley campus radio station KALX. While practicing Jesse, a strange loner hanging around the club, was invited to sing. He immediately gain a reputation for being hilarious and often shocked punks of modesty. The band only expanded adding Annie another schoolmate of Joey and Eggplant, as well as Anna, a brilliant and sarcastic poet. The three singers were often too "screechy" for people, Eggplant was often too stoned to tune his guitar, and band members were often floating away to go to college or Europe.
