Blake Garden, also known as Blake Gardens, is a small urban parkette located in Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island. The park is named for Sir Henry Arthur Blake, a former British Governor of Hong Kong.

[edit] Historic background

In 1894, the bubonic plague outbroke in Hong Kong. Because of the dense population and deplorable sanitary condition, Tai Ping Shan area was worst plague-stricken. Hence, the buildings in the area was bought and demolished by the Government. Part of the area, which was worst affected by the plague, was redeveloped. Blake Gardens[1] and the Old Pathological Institute (now Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences) were built in the area after demolishing the building.

In the Garden, there is the Commemorative Plaque for the Outbreak of the Bubonic Plague in 1894.
