Occupation: film writerdirector and producer

Blake Fitzpatrick (born April 22, 1985), whose nickname is Sparkplug Johanssen, is an Irish-American film director who has made a number of acclaimed B-movies. Fitzpatrick started making films at the age of eight, and by the age of fourteen was hired by Todd Sheets, the director and producer of “Zombie Bloodbath.” Fitzpatrick went on to work on over ten more feature films with Sheets until he left to expand his own company, Monumental Pictures.

In 2003 Monumental Pictures released their second feature film, "Imprudence" (starring Lon Amick). The film, a spoof on the B-movies of the 1970’s, has gained a wide cult following and has been successful in both local art theatres and on DVD.

Monumental's next film, "The Changers" (2004) drew critical attention, and shot Fitzpatrick’s career into a larger market. Since then, Fitzpatrick et.al. have finished a feature film version of his 2001 script, "A Dream of Color in Black and White" which is to be released later this year. The film is set to feature cameos from film legends such as Tom Savini and Lloyd Kaufman. Blake Fitzpatrick has two more feature films currently in the planning stages for 2006.

[edit] Quotes

  • "If making movies was easy, everyone would be doing it."
  • "Loneliness is a fact of life. The sooner we realize we are always and will always be alone, the sooner we can free our minds to accomplish greater things. We try and try to make ourselves think we are not alone by surrounding ourselves with friends or lovers, but at the end of the day, we always end up alone."
  • "A lot of people compare my style of filmmaking to Ed Wood, and I am proud to continue this tradition. Some people may think it's a bad thing or something, but it's not... Ed Wood understood what it meant to be a true independent low budget filmmaker. I also credit Al Adamson as being a major influence on my work, and I think it shows in each and every frame of my films. At least I hope so."
  • "Marty Feldman was my favorite actor. Oh, how I would have loved to have been able to work with Marty Feldman before he died... But alas, I guess it wasn't meant to be. He would have been great for the $500 vampire movie I want to make next year. He kind of had a creepy look, you know?"
