Blade Runners

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Blade Runners were a professional wrestling tag team in the 1980's that was made up of two future superstars, Steve Borden and Jim Hellwig.

[edit] History

Blade Runner Rock (Hellwig) and Blade Runner Flash (Borden) started teaming in 1985 after Powerteam USA, which they were members of, disbanded.

First, they wrestled in Memphis' Mid-Southern Wrestling under manager Dutch Mantel. Because they were essentially bodybuilders and lacked thorough training, the team was raw and brutal, easily hurting opponents with their stiff maneuvers.

They left for the Universal Wrestling Federation in early 1986 and were managed by Eddie Gilbert. While there, they were put in a feud with Bill Watts and a variety of partners.

A few months after arriving, Blade Runner Rock went to World Class Championship Wrestling, where he became The Dingo Warrior. Blade Runner Flash had changed his name to Sting and he stayed with Gilbert and later became a star in World Championship Wrestling. Dingo Warrior later went to the World Wrestling Federation where he became famous as The Ultimate Warrior.

They reunited, although not officially under the Blade Runner name, for one match on WCW Monday Nitro on October 12, 1998 against Hulk Hogan and Bret Hart of the nWo. Since the two had become very popular on their own and in entirely different promotions, during this event, they were officially regarded to be two famous superstars that were teaming up for the very first time. Sting and Warrior won the match via disqualification due to interference.
