Black hair or jet black hair is a hair colour characterized by being completely black (as opposed to just a dark brown hair color).

It is the opposite of blonde hair color, especially platinum blonde, as it has a large quantity of the dark pigment melanin. It is the most common natural hair color in people of non-White heritage, but occurs in people of all backgrounds. Black hair is particularly common in people of Mediterranean, Asian, Middle Eastern, Indigenous Australian and African descent, and much less so in people from Nordic countries. However, there is a strong element of black hair amongst the Celtic peoples of Wales, Cornwall, Ireland and western Scotland often combined with fair skin; this stark contrast often catches the eye of black and white photographers. Black hair comes in a variety of textures. For example, many people of African or Melanesian origin have afro textured hair, while straight black hair is common in Asians or indigenous peoples of the Americas. Black hair can be found in humans and certain breeds of dogs and cats, among other mammalian species.

Black hair is sometimes used in Western culture to conform to a certain sub-culture. For example, people that align themselves with the goth or emo subcultures usually dye their hair black if it is not their natural colour.
