In an interview with Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, in 1994 of "Guitar for the Practicing Musician", by John Stix, Cafe Anarchy, NYC. It is said that for the 70's albums with Ozzy, the music was written by Tony Iommi, and the lyrics were written by Geezer Butler. www.black-sabbath.com/interviews/tonygeez_0594.html

The albums in this section are not official, as they were not released with the cooperation of band management, and are generally released by record companies, not the band itself.
- 1980 - Live at Last (Live from 1973 - Iommi, Osbourne, Butler, Ward); #5 UK. Eventually remastered and officially released as one of the two Past Lives discs.
- 1980 - Greatest Hits. Not to be confused with the official release Greatest Hits 1970-1978, this 10-track compilation only spans the first five albums and used a section of Jan Brueghel the Elder's "El triunfo de la muerte" for the front cover.
- 1973, 1976, 2000 - The Best of Black Sabbath (several different compilation albums under this title)
- 1974 - Bagdad (live recording from California Jam, Germany)
- 1976 - The Original (compilation, Germany)
- 1978 - Rock Heavies (compilation, Germany)
- 1983 - The Best (compilation, Australia)
