Black Lion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Black Lion was an anti-fascist resistance movement in Ethiopia during the Italian occupation. The movement was founded in western Ethiopia, and included fighters such as the Shoan Ras Abebe Aregay. Dr. Alemework Beyene, a veternary surgeon educated in Britain, was the Black Lion chairman.

The group was effectively disbanded after the surrender of Ras Imru Haile Selassie, and many members were killed by the Italians following the unsuccessful attempt on Rodolfo Graziani's life 19 February 1937.[1]
