Black Friday is used to refer to the air battle waged between German and British aircraft over Norway on 9 February 1945. A number of warships of the Kriegsmarine entered the Førdefjorden to avoid British reconnaissance aircraft. However, they were spotted by the British and subsequently British planes took off from Scotland to sink the German ships.

The Germans, only 15 minutes of flight-time away at Herdla Airfield came to the scene to repel the British and defend the German ships, this resulted in a large confrontation between the British and arriving German aircraft. This was the largest Air Battle over Norway during World War II, with approximately 15 planes and 24 lives being lost during the battle.
