[edit] Plot

A remake of the 1974 horror movie Black Christmas. The movie tells the story of Billy, a young boy who was abused by his mother as a child. While his mother was cheating on Billy's father, she eventually killed his father and kept Billy in the attic - for good, while she was with her lover and starting a "new" family. As Billy's mother fell pregnant with a daughter and treated her with love, which Billy had never experienced with his mother, Billy came out of the attic after years and brutally murdered his mother and her lover. Cut to present day, a group of nine sorority sisters consisting of Kelli (Katie Cassidy), Melissa (Michelle Trachtenberg), Heather (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Lauren (Crystal Lowe), Dana (Lacey Chabert), Megan (Jessica Harmon), Clair (Leela Savasta), Eve (Kathleen Kole) and their house mother, Ms. Mac (Andrea Martin), who now live in Billy's childhood home, find themselves being harassed by threatening and intimidating mystery phone-calls during Christmas Break, and as two of the girls go missing, the girls begin being murdered one by one by none other than a mysterious person who lived in the house before them...

  • Crystal Lowe's first leading role.
  • Glen Morgan didn't specifically have any male actors considered for the role of Kyle in the movie. Instead, during auditions, his 14-year-old daughter (stepdaughter of Glen's actress wife Kristen Cloke, who also has a role in the movie), picked out Oliver Hudson shouting out "That one!"
  • This is the last feature film scored by composer Shirley Walker. She would pass away from complications of a stroke less than a month before it's release.
  • Andrea Martin (Ms. MacHenry) played "Phyllis" in the 1974 version of Black Christmas. Glen Morgan specifically wanted either Andrea Martin or Margot Kidder ("Barb") to return to pay respect to the 1974 version of the movie. Martin said in an interview that she hadn't thought about Black Christmas for 32 years and it "came out of the blue" when Morgan offered her the role of the house mother.
  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Crystal Lowe, and Kristen Cloke have all appeared in the Final Destination series. Winstead and Lowe were in Final Destination 3, and Cloke was in Final Destination. It is also interesting to note that the director of the movie, Glen Morgan, also co-wrote and produced Final Destination and Final Destination 3.
  • Some of the sorority sisters in the movie are based on the original characters, for example Crystal Lowe's character Lauren Hanon, is just like Barb from the original Black Christmas, Kelli (Katie Cassidy), is like Jess and Clair (Leela Savasta) is a copy of Claire form the original.
  • Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls) auditioned for the role of Kelli but lost to the actress Katie Cassidy.
  • Katie Cassidy stated in an interview this will be her last horror film for a while.
  • Glen Morgan approached Mary Elizabeth Winstead in an airport at 4 AM for the role of "Heather" which was specifically written for her. She was a little bit hesitant but accepted the role because she was a big fan of the original.
  • Many of the cast members have worked with each other in other projects before. Kristen Cloke is married to the director Glen Morgan, and Kirsten appeared in Final Destination which Morgan wrote. Crystal Lowe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were both in Final Destination 3, which Morgan also wrote.
  • In this movie the character Clair is almost an exact copy of Claire from the original. They both die the same way, and both have a family member come to the sorority house, after they go missing.
  • Melissa Kitt was originally supposed to have been Asian, but because Trachtenberg showed interest in the role and it was not yet cast, it was changed.
  • Some of the character's surnames coincide with the surnames of singers who have released famous Christmas songs. "Kelli Presely" takes her surname from Elvis Presley, who released the song "Blue Christmas". "Melissa Kitt" takes her surname from Eartha Kitt who released the song "Santa Baby". "Heather Lee" takes her surname from Brenda Lee who released the song "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree". "Dana Mathis" takes her surname from Johnny Mathis, who released the song "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year", "Megan Helms" takes her surname from Bobby Helms who sang "Jingle Bell Rock".
  • Alexz Johnson who starred in Final Destination 3 was the original casting choices for both the roles of 'Kelli' and 'Heather'. Cassidy was already cast as Kelli and Mary Elizabeth Winstead wanted to play Heather. If Winstead turned the part down it would have gone to her.

[edit] Spoilers

  • There have been rumors that the survivor (originally Katie Cassidy's character Kelli) has changed due to the latest re-shoots.
  • It's been reported that there will be 2 killers in the movie, Billy Lenz and his sister and daughter, Agnes.
