Black Cat Track

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Black Cat Track is a rough overland route from the Morobe coast in Papua New Guinea at Salamaua to the township of Wau. It is a historical route first used by prospective miners searching for gold in the 1920's and 30's. When gold was discovered at Wau it became the only route to the goldfield before an airstrip was created.

As a hiking track it is a 3 to 4 day leech infested, torturous, route that has been described as "suitable only for masochists and Israeli Paratroopers", but it also offers fascinating scenery and village life.
