Black belt is video game for Sega Master System that is a side-scrolling beat'em up game. The user's character, Riki, can punch, kick, crouch punch, crouch kick, regular jump kick, and super jump kick. The character has an energy bar, which can be replenished by food items that fly across the screen from time to time.

Regular enemies who enter the screen one after another usually take one hit to kill. At later stages, regular enemies may take two hits to kill.

At certain points, there will be a mid-boss fight. They take four hits to kill.

At the end of a stage, there will be a boss fight. The boss has an energy bar. Bosses are usually only susceptible to one type of attack. For example, the first level boss is more susceptible to punches and can only be finished with a punch. Later bosses can only be hurt by certain attacks in a certain sequence.

The music was composed by Katsuhiro Hayashi.

The game is an localized version of the Japanese game Hokuto no Ken, which is based on the Fist of the North Star manga/anime. The changes were the characters themselves and the backgrounds, as well as everything related to the property. However, the game mechanics are still the same and even the lesser enemies die by exploding into bits.
