"Black" is a track on grunge group Pearl Jam's debut album, Ten. The song is a soliloquy by a heart-broken man, who is remembering his absent lover.
"Black" is one of Pearl Jam's best known songs and is a central emotional piece on the album. As with "Rearviewmirror" from Vs. and "Better Man" from Vitalogy, the band refused to make it into a single, feeling that it was too personal and the feeling of it would be lost by a video or a single release [1]. In spite of this, the song charted at #3 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in 1992. The song was included on Pearl Jam's greatest hits album, Rearviewmirror: Greatest Hits 1991-2003.
