Bláhnjúkur
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bláhnjúkur is a volcano in the south of Iceland. Its height is about 940 m.
The name means in English: blue mountain. This comes from the blue-black colour of its sides. The colour is due to volcanic ash and lava flows.
The mountain is situated in Landmannalaugar, a natural park near Hekla. It lies next to the Brennisteinsalda, another volcano.
A hiking trail leads up to the top where a panaramic overview helps with the orientation. If the weather is good, five glaciers can be seen from there.
