[edit] College
Hi all
Scalydonuk - you changed my edit to this article. Having reviewed Wikipedia's policies I can understand the removal of the word 'good' from my line on Bishop's Stortford College as this is perhaps subjective. However, in a very recent official Inspection, the College was rated very highly indeed! Why remove the link to the College's website though? What is wrong with giving a link to the website? An encyclopedia is supposed to be informative...... Unless you can persuade me otherwise, I'll put the link back. Perhaps we should list all of the secondary schools and give links to all of their websites?

My problem was that it read "there is a very good independent school" followed by the link directly after. I am perfectly happy with the link being under the links section, but having it straight after an opinionated statement (even if there is proof to back it up) didn't seem very neutral. I would see no problem in saying that the Bishop's Stortford College is the best school in the town, according to ofsted; but I thought dropping it in casually like that made it sound a bit too opinionated. I hope that I have cleared up your concerns. --Sclaydonuk 18:49, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
No problem Sclaydunk, I was indeed wrong to put online a comment that sounded opinionated. It is much better now. Thanks for the reply

[edit] Infobox improvements
Is it just me, or is the information box on the right a bit boring? The majority of replies in the right hand column contain either 'east', 'england' or 'hertfordshire'. I would like to see a wider variety of information that is a bit more interesting.

[edit] Richard Whittington
I added some information about Richard Whittington's links with the town, and also added a bit about Bishop's Stortford Golf club in the leisure part. Carl w 13:34, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] external links
This is now rammed up by the side of the recently added climate section. I think it would look better below the climate graph so that it again looked like a separate section. Should this be done?
The info box looks fine to me sclaydonuk .... the info is at least correct! Adrian Baker 22:46, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I agree and have changed it, all be it by a rather crude method. Alternatively the climate graph could be made smaller. --Sclaydonuk 20:14, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I think that the climate graph is too big. It takes up a large portion of the page but doesn't offer a lot in return. I think it should be made smaller. I'm glad you cleaned up the links. Adrian Baker 21:38, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Resized graph to 200px and aligned it on the right. It doesn't interfere with the external links as much now, and is still clickable for a clearer image. As a Stortfordian myself, I'm very happy with the article. :D AKismet 01:28, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Essex?
Why is there a link to this article from Bishop's Stortford, Essex? Bishop's Stortford is in Hertfordshire. 80.5.208.38 19:51, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
- There are points in Stortford where by moving from one's living room to one's bathroom, you would cross the border from Hertfordshire into Essex. AKismet 11:17, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Aye, that's canny like, but does anyone really think that Bishop's Stortford is in Essex? I mean, apart from those people living in the three houses by the Stansted Road roundabout. Carl w 23:44, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oi, I know one of them :P AKismet 23:58, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Simple English
I have created a simple english article on Bishop's Stortford and am just informing you so that any of the regualr Stortford editers can contribute to this. If you do not know, simple english uses a very small vocabulary and the wikipedia is designed for people who don't speak english as their first language or who have learning difficulties. --Sclaydonuk 09:17, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] 250,000 year ago??
Hi Guys,
"Settlers first made their homes in Bishop's Stortford over 250,000 years ago,"
I'm going to take this out because humans had yet to leave Africa, and were not even humans at this point (sorry creationists) and were probably homo habilis or erectus.... Could it be 2,500? It's not referenced though, so perhaps someone could provide that if they want to change it to the new period?
