Bishop of Reading

The Bishop of Reading is a suffragan bishop in the Church of England, based in Reading, Berkshire. He is responsible for the archdeaconry of Berkshire within the Diocese of Oxford.
The current bishop is the Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell.
The previous bishop, the Right Reverend Dominic Walker, left in 2003 to become the Bishop of Monmouth in place of the Most Reverend Rowan Williams, who had been appointed Archbishop of Canterbury. The Reverend Dr Jeffrey John was originally appointed as his successor by the then Bishop of Oxford, Richard Harries, but withdrew after controversy about his homosexuality.
