[edit] Recent history
Air traffic and passenger numbers have grown since Air Tran started service in the early 2000's. At a time when passenger numbers dropped around the US, Flint was one of only a few airports to show growth. Passengers from the Detroit area were choosing Flint because of low fares, and conveniences. In 2002, Flint bypassed MBS International Airport in Saginaw to carrying more passengers to more destinations. Flint has also gone over some recent baggage claim extensions adding two more carousels bringing the total number up to four.
Today, Air Tran and Northwest Airlines battle it out for passengers. In 2005, Air Tran announced service to Fort Myers, FL. A day later Northwest announced the same service. A week later Northwest announced service to Las Vegas, NV. Two days later Air Tran announced Las Vegas service starting a day before Northwest's planned start, and 20 mins. earlier departure. Travelers to and from Flint enjoy the battle for their business.
Currently Flint has resumed operation to Chicago, which ranks as one of the top 5 destinations from Flint. The airline carrying this newest addition to destinations from Flint is American Airlines, staffed by Flight-AV, a contractor to American Airlines.
In the past Flint has also seen service from...
- ATA Connection (Chicago Midway and Indianapolis)
- Piedmont (Dayton)
- US Airways (Pittsburgh)
- America West Express (Columbus)
- Prestige Airways (Orlando, and Chicago Midway)
- United Airlines (?)
