I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!  Powers T 23:51, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate the welcome, even if I do suspect it was something like a form letter. :) Bill W. Smith, Jr. 02:06, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

If we didn't have an easy template to use, most people wouldn't get welcomed at all. We figure something is better than nothing. =) Powers T 20:00, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
I'd also like to remind you about the convenient "Preview" button available below the edit window. Previewing your edits keeps the edit history from getting cluttered. =) If you have some really big changes to make, you might also consider creating a sandbox in your userspace (User:BillWSmithJr/Sandbox, for example) that you can play around with until you get it looking just right. Thanks! Powers T 20:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, as a programmer I am used to making a change, compiling and checking it, live. I am aware of the Preview button and will TRY REAL HARD to remember to use it! :) Regarding the sandbox, may I ask... exactly how do you reference a file in it? --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 03:16, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Not sure what you mean. If you create a sandbox, you can copy code from an article into the sandbox, make changes to it there, and save it for later. Then, when you've got it looking the way you want, you can copy it back from the sandbox into the live article. Powers T 23:35, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I think I actually have a handle on it. Looked at a few sandboxes last night. --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 23:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Middle-earth WikiProject!

Hello, BillWSmithJr!

Thank you for joining WikiProject Middle-earth and contributing to improve Tolkien-related articles. We are glad to have you join in the effort!

Here're some good links and subpages related to our WikiProject.

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask on our talk page.

Thank you for your contributions and have fun editing!

Also, sorry this sounds like a form letter, but my to quote Powers, "something is better than nothing" and since I alone tend to welcome members of WP:Me, it's difficult to come up with a personalized message for each and new member now that the WikiProject is expanding. But if you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask me! :)Mirlen 05:22, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome, Mirlen! :) --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 20:57, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mark Twain

Hello Mr. Smith. they had three daughters and he became the closest with his youngest. when he was on world tour his daughter died and his wife soon followed, leaving him sad, more pessimistic and alone.

If this is not vandalism, I don't know what to call it. (Wikimachine 17:09, 3 November 2006 (UTC))

It looks accurate from what I know of Clemens' life. Powers T 02:21, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Shaking hands

So, we meet again :-) Thanks for replying to IP75 on my talkpage. Comparing how you and I have interacted with each other, to how we've both reacted to him/her/it, I can only conclude that this kind of thing doesn't bring out the best in either of us. I don't mean that as criticism, just an explanation for why I'm trying to disengage. It doesn't seem likely that any kind of reasonable or productive discourse would actually occur. On the other hand, I ended up enjoying that little flurry of activity at Greek mythology; to an outside observer we must have looked like the 3 Stooges :-) Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 06:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

My hair started falling out a few years ago, so I will be Curly. With a sobriquet like Doc you MUST be Moe. Now we just need to find Larry and we can head to Vegas.

I actually rewrote my response to hir 3 times before I hit Save page. Each time I re-read it, a little voice said 'attack the arguement, not the person!' but it was NOT easy. I have been active online since WAY before the Internet. If you wanna find out who and what I am, try Googling Brewers' Witch BBS and soc.religion.pagan. I have been dealing with trolls, and dropping them dead, since before most online folks got out of diapers, and earned my asbestos underwear and sacred snowball balista in the days of alt.pagan. --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 11:50, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

LMAO! I know what you mean about the 'Save' button, too. I deleted so many responses that I eventually just gave up. I see that you're involved in big projects already (and we have several interests in common), but if you have the time and inclination you might review Christmas. I suspect you could bring a lot to the article :) --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 01:36, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I HAVE looked at it, and it is on my watchlist. Will jump in if I have anything to add. I WAS hoping to see something there regarding the specific steps the RCC took to force XMas to coincide with the Winter Solstice, but I was heartened to see the section on Saturnalia. :) BTW, did you know that historical Jesus, if he ever existed, was actually born sometime in the spring, probably very close to Easter? It is the only time of year in that part of the world that the shepherds would have been "in the fields, keeping their sheep" as it is birthing time. --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 23:41, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mead

Sorry I stepped on your toes on Talk:Mead. I had only seen the literary ref you had there, and I was mostly trying to move the old pro-Poland stuff out of newbie sight. — RevRagnarok Talk Contrib 12:37, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem, and nice to meetcha! :) Wacht Heil! --Bill W. Smith, Jr. 12:41, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
