Talk:Billy Duffy

[edit] Neutrality
We read that "Billy Duffy is undoubtedly one of rock's most, underrated guitarists." That seems inherently biased. How could anybody ever prove such a claim about anybody? You'd need to start by showing agreement that he was an excellent guitarist -- but then he would no longer be underrated, would he?
The whole article needs attention. -- Hoary 10:32, 2005 May 19 (UTC)
I'll tell you why - you cannot name me a single guitarist who is as skilled as Duffy that is off the radar like he is, because there isn't one. Sure, musicians would show agreement that he was an excellent guitarist, and that is seperate from the fact that he is hardly appreciated among the critics and general public. Recently there was a list in Rolling Stone magazine of the top 100 rock guitarists of all time. Duffy didn't make the list while Jack White cracked the top ten. Now go out and ask Slash or Joe Perry or whichever expert of your choice, who is a better guitar player, White or Duffy. They will tell you Duffy. ... added at 03:41, 2005 May 20 by 24.155.125.234
Yes...Duffy is an absolute legend.
- What you say could be right. I don't claim to know. (I've never heard of any of the people you refer to.) But if experts say he's skilled (and perhaps also underrated), then you can cite these experts saying it. -- Hoary 04:06, 2005 May 20 (UTC)
You don't know who Slash, Joe Perry, or Jack White are? Maybe you've never heard of Guns and Roses, Aerosmith, or the White Stripes either. You've probably never heard a Cult song in your life and if you did, you weren't aware of it. The page I wrote was certainly your introduction to Billy Duffy. I didn't write that he is "one of rock's most, underrated guitarists" - I wrote that he is "UNDOUBTEDLY one of rock's most, underrated guitarists". That goes beyond mere opinion. I wrote this page from memory. I knew all of this about Billy Duffy EXCEPT for his status as a musician? Forget the irony of you critiquing a page written about a rock guitarist - what would have been biased would be for me to write that Duffy "is the most, underrated rock guitarist". I wrote "one of the most", because there are others, like James Stevenson and Marty Willson-Piper, seperated from other great guitarists in that amongst the music establishment, their due credit is missing also. ... added at 19:08, 2005 May 20 bu 24.155.125.234
- I've heard of all three bands. I'm not sure I've heard the White Stripes. I have heard G&R and Aerosmith (and, as it happens, thought they were utterly uninteresting). I don't know the Cult or Duffy and have never pretended otherwise. What you did was to state that Duffy's status was so solid as to be beyond a matter of opinion. But this is your opinion. Is it more than just your opinion? Could be: and you could demonstrate it by citing other knowledgable people (musicians or critics) saying the same thing.
