[edit] Broken axel
The Vukovich Accident was not caused by Ward breaking an axel. He was hit by a gust of wind off the southeast turn (turn two). The broken axel is a myth that has routinely been brought back up, due to misunderstanding on the part of the press in the latter part of 1955 or so. --71.156.81.149 14:18, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Vukovich was a Serb
I understand he was also called "The Silent Serb"; can somebody confirm & include? Also add it to the List of athletes by nickname. Trekphiler 11:11, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
Bill Vukovich was a Croat: http://www.vecernji-list.hr/newsroom/news/bih/605959/index.do [1] --211.31.15.182 15:21, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
He was called the Silent Serb.
That article that claims to interview his brother is obviously a fraud. Bill Vukovich's original surname was Vukurovich which his parents changed when they arrived in the states. The article does not mention this and claims to have tracked down Bills long lost brother who claims he is a croat. The supposed brothers surname is also Vukovich yet has never been to the states. Highly unlikley Bill's parents would ahve left their own son behind in Bosnia and never made contact with him. Yet he somehow changed his surname too.
