I, (Onomatopoeia 14:54, 3 December 2006 (UTC)) am aware that this picture is copyright by the NBA. However, I assert (assuming good faith) that including this copyrighted picture into the Bill Russell Wikipedia article falls under fair use:

  1. it is a historically significant photo of Bill Russell, who won a record 11 NBA titles and therefore is regarded as one of the most incredible NBA basketball players of all time;
  2. No free alternatives seem to exist!
  3. It no way infringes the ability of nba.com to sell its products
  4. it is of much lower resolution than the original photo: copies made from it will be of very inferior quality
  5. the photo is only being used for informational purposes. No commercial use is foreseen. A picture of the basketball player in question would significantly enhance the Wikipedia article.
  6. Its inclusion in the article adds significantly to the article because it shows the subject of this article, Bill Russell. It also depicts him holding (yet another) MVP trophy, depicting him in an iconic and highly fitting matter, as he is the record NBA winner of all time.
