Bilsdale transmitting station

The Bilsdale transmitting station is a broadcasting and telecommunications facility, located at Bilsdale West Moor, close to Helmsley, North Yorkshire — UK grid reference SE553962. It includes a 300 metre high (980 ft) guyed steel tubular mast that is used for FM- and TV-transmission. The DTT antenna increases its height by another 35 metres (115 ft). The total height is 335 metres (1095 ft). It is one of the most powerful in the UK at 500 kW erp and due to the site's elevated position it has the highest (TV) transmitter array in Great Britain. Bilsdale carries the TV signal and national radio frequencies for the Tees Valley region, as well as Radio Cleveland on 95FM. It also carries 96.6 TFM, 100-102 Century FM and Galaxy 105-106.

Recent renovations increased the height of the mast by 10 metres (30 ft) to 300 metres (980 ft)and added static red LED's for use as aircraft warning lights. Further renovations are planned. The mast is now the second tallest structure in the United Kingdom.
