Billinge-and-Winstanley (also known as Higher End or Billinge Higher End) is an area in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan, in Greater Manchester. Higher End was an urban district of Lancashire, England from 1924 to 1974[1]. Under the Local Government Act 1972 it was placed in the county of Greater Manchester. The village of Billinge was made part of the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens in Merseyside.
The area is now in the Orrell ward.

Winstanley College, formerly Upholland Grammar School, is a sixth form college with the address of Winstanley Road, Billinge, Wigan, UK. In the academic year 2005-2006 it had 1,749 full time students.
[edit] Billinge Hospital
Until June 2004, Billinge Hospital served as the maternity facility for the surrounding local areas. Since the hospital closed, maternity facilities for these areas, have been provided by Maternity Units set up in other hospitals in neighbouring districts.
