Bill Phillips (first baseman)

William B. Phillips (April, 1857 - October 7, 1900) was a Major League Baseball first baseman. Also known as "Silver Bill", he was a native of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, and played for the Cleveland Blues (1879-1884), Brooklyn Grays (1885-1887), and Kansas City Cowboys (1888).
He finished in his league's TOP TEN three times for games played, at bats, doubles, RBI, and extra base hits, and four times for triples.
In 1887 with the Brooklyn Grays he became the second Canadian baseball player to surpass 100 RBI. (The first was Tip O'Neill in 1886 with the St. Louis Browns.)[1]
Phillips' career totals include 1,038 games played, 1,130 hits, 17 home runs, 534 RBI, 562 runs scored, and a lifetime batting average of .266.
He passed away at the age of 43 in Chicago, Illinois, and was laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery.
