Bill Belzer (b. November 05, 1968) (born William Francis Belzer) is an American musician. He played bass guitar and drums while in High School, first attending a Catholic high school seminary known as Savior of the World High School Seminary, in Kansas City, Kansas under the patronage of the diocese of Kansas City-Saint Joseph in Missouri, and then Rockhurst High School, in Kansas City, Missouri, from which he graduated in 1987.

While at Rockhurst High School he was drummer for a band named Mongol Beach Party, a fun-loving guitar-based jam-pop band, whose influences ranged from XTC and The Beatles, Elvis Costello and The Smiths, but included an eclectic appreciation of War, Robert Fripp, Pere Ubu, Marvin Gaye,New Order and Tom Waits.

The band’s breakup coincided with Hankel leaving to pursue solo endevours and with Belzer leaving to join with the seminal Uncle Tupelo as drummer for a stint on their European-American Tour with Michelle Shocked and Taj Mahal in the early 1990’s. When Belzer returned to Kansas City, he joined with Frehling’s band Grumpy. Replacing Bryan Basham on drums, the band included Thomas Montgomery on Bass and the Mongols horn section (above).

Belzer went on to other bands such as The New Amsterdams featuring Matthew Pryor, Dustin Kinsey, Eric McCann, and Jason Rich, and Bill Belzer and the Beauty Operators.
