Bill (played by David Carradine) is the character for whom the movie Kill Bill is named and is the leader of The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, which included Bill's brother, Budd. Bill's code name is "Snake Charmer". His origins and full name are not known. He had many father figures, one of which was a pimp named Esteban Vihaio. During his travels he was trained by legendary swordsmith Hattori Hanzo and the fabled Pai Mei.

After a period of working for the Yakuza (during which he participated in the murder of O-Ren Ishii's parents), he came to form the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

Deeply saddened by the apparent murder of one of his assassins (and his lover) Beatrix "Black Mamba" Kiddo, aka "The Bride" (played by Uma Thurman), Bill personally seeks out her killers only to find that she is still very much alive, trying to clear her past, and to start a new life with her unborn child.

Bill surfaces unannounced at Kiddo's wedding rehearsal and promises not to interfere with her new life. When Bill meets Kiddo's soon-to-be-husband, Kiddo covers for him by saying he is her father (which figuratively he is, of sorts).

Bill wishes Kiddo the best of luck as he moves to the Bride's side of the wedding chapel. At the same time, the remainder of his assassin squad moves in from outside and massacres the entire wedding party. Bill notices that Kiddo is still alive, but moves in to deliver a final speech ("This is me at my most masochistic.") concluded by a gunshot to her head. Before he fires, Kiddo mutters that Bill is the father of her unborn child, (Bill.. it's your bab-) which only seems to speed Bill's shooting.

Kiddo miraculously survives the ordeal but falls into a coma for four years. When she awakens, she assumes that her baby died because of her traumatic ordeal. Kiddo then proceeds to hunt down and kill the remaining assassins of the DiVA squad.

In a final confrontation at the end of Vol. 2, Kiddo storms in on Bill expecting to find him alone, but standing beside Bill is her daughter, now four years old, pretending to shoot her with a plastic gun. In a move that surprises Beatrix, Bill has already told the girl, BB, that Beatrix is her mother. Surprising her even further, Bill then tells BB honestly and bluntly that he shot and tried to kill "Mommy." BB does not seem phased by this revelation, apparently just happy that the mother she's heard so much about is finally with her, and asks Beatrix to watch a movie with her until she falls asleep. After BB nods off to sleep, Bill and Kiddo settle their grievances and decide to conclude their "unfinished business." In the short final battle, Kiddo fatally strikes Bill by using the Five-Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique.

Momentarily, the Bride is horrified by the awfulness of her triumph, as she murdered the father of her child. Yet with gentlemanly dignity, Bill tenderly holds her hand one last time, and returns her still-present love for him. As Bill gracefully walks to his death with her weeping silently for him, the two warriors forgive each other.

Having liberated her daughter from a murderous father, the Bride then takes BB into the night to begin a new life.
