Bilgola, New South Wales
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bilgola is a suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located between Avalon to the north, Newport to the south and Clareville to the west.
The main access road connecting the suburbs north to the rest of Sydney, (State road 14 Barrenjoey Road) runs through Hewitt Park along the cliff line which separates Bilgola Plateau to the west, from Bilgola beach to the east. There were plans during the 1960's to build a bridge bypass of this twisting road between the north and south headlands of Bilgola. The Bridge was never built. The only evidence of construction can be seen at the southern end of the road, where a small amount of landfill was added to remove a sharp bend in the road. The bend still remains, with the landfill now providing a small grassy area, with an excellent view of Newport Beach.
