Bighorn No. 8, Alberta

The Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8 is a county situated in Census Division No. 15 of Alberta, Canada. It is located between Calgary and Banff National Park, north of Kananaskis. Trans-Canada Highway bisects this county.
It was created as a municipal district in January 1, 1988 from the former Improvement District No. 8[1], absorbing the Town of Canmore in the early 90's.

Bighorn No. 8 includes the Town of Canmore, and the five hamlets Benchlands, Dead Man's Flats, Exshaw, Harvie Heights and Lac Des Arcs. The summer villages of Ghost Lake and Waiparous are also located here.

The Canada 2001 Census reports that Bighorn No. 8 had a population of around 1,300, scattered over 2,810 km², with total number of private dwellings being 758. The population density is 0.5 /km²
