[edit] Current Rules

Each week has 3 important events:

  • The first and more important is the Leader (Líder) task. The Leader is that contestant (sometimes a couple) that cannot be voted that week and nominee one "brother" to face the elimination match (commonly named Paredão, or Big Wall in English).
  • The second one is the Angel (Anjo) task. The Angel can protect any other contestant from being voted, but he (or she) can't protect himself.
  • And the third one is the Estalecas task. The Estaleca (Z$) is the house currency. Each contestant has it own credit card with an amount of "Estalecas", that allows them to buy stuff for the house, like food, or personal stuff (rent a hair dryer, do hang-gliding, do bungee-jump or other things that they couldn't have in common life or a minor missing thing in the house).

On Sundays night, usually, the Angel and the Leader, respectively appoint one participant to be preserved and another to be indicated to Paredão. Then, each one of the remaining contestants goes to a separate room, called Confessionary (Confessionário), and indicate another contestant to face the elimination match. After that, the most voted contestant is sent to the elimination match and an audience poll starts (either by phone, SMS or Internet) to choose the one that's is going to get out the house.

On Tuesdays (except in special occasions, like the final week), the poll result is shown and the most voted contestant is eliminated.

[edit] Big Brother Brasil 3

The third season of BBB began on January 14, 2003, and caused controversy. Among the participants was the Miss Brazil 2002, Joseane. Rules of the Miss Brazil contest forbid participation of married women, and when Joseane participated, she stated she was single. Due to the overexposition in the BBB, some magazines discovered she was married since before winning the beauty contest. The marriage being proved, Joseane was stripped of her crown, and Thaisa Tomsem was crowned Miss Brazil 2002.

Also, participant Dilson, not knowing Joseane was married, tried to start a romantic relationship with her during the show. Due to her refusals, he felt unmotivated and left the show voluntairly. Participant Harry replaced him at February 26, and became the first participant not to enter the show at the first day.

The season lasted 78 days and ended on April 1, 2003.
