Bidwell, Ohio, is a small, rural community located in Gallia County. It is a fairly small settlement, with only approximately 500 total population, when combined with neighbor Porter (which is a road with houses on both sides located around 20 feet from Bidwell.) Bidwell is eleven miles from the county seat, Gallipolis, Ohio, a town of approximately 4000 residents.

There is only one shopping center in Bidwell, that contains a Foodland, a hardware store, and a video rental store. There is also a gas station located in Bidwell, the Korner, which provides a local place to eat. Also, a Dollar General is being built, located one the other side of the street from the shopping center.

Bidwell is an unincorporated village, and therefore doesn't have a formal form of local government or a charter at the time of this writing.

There is a school located in Porter, Bidwell's close neighbor, known as Bidwell Porter Elementary School. The school is a Kindergarten to eighth grade school, and enrollment is approximately 600 students. Students who graduate from Bidwell usually attend River Valley High School, located in Cheshire, Ohio.

Fire safety in Bidwell is taken care of by the local Township fire department, Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department. All of the firemen are volunteers, and most funding for the station is from levies.
