Bhimavaram is a city and a municipality in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is the second largest town in the West Godavari district. It is a rich place and can be considered as the commercial headquarters of West Godavari district.[citation needed] This town is famous for paddy and shrimp fields. The northern part of Bhimavaram is known as ONE TOWN and the southern Part TWO TOWN. The town is also well known for textile shops like Bommana, Chandana and Naresh and Shyam Silks.[citation needed]
Some famous temples located here are:
- Gunupudi Somarama temple, one of the five Pancharamas. Built during the 3rd century A.D., the Shivalinga in the temple is believed to assume a black-cum-brown colour on no-moon day and becomes whitish on full-moon day. The prathista of the Shivalinga is by MOON GOD.
- Mavullamma temple (Mavullamma Festival Starts on 14 th january of every year its runs 30 days)
- Bhimeshvara (the name of the towm is derived from it).
- Datta Kshetram.
- Subbaraidu Temple
- Venkateswara Temple (near Nataraj Theater and another in NarasimPuram)
- Jain Temple at PeddaAmiram (one of its kind in the whole of AP).
This is the one of the commercial and rich places in West Godavari. The place is well connected by bus (Old bus stand located in Two town and New Bus stand located in One Town) and train routes (Town Station in Two town and Junction Railway Station locates in One Town). It is located 455 km from Hyderabad and 270 km from Visakhapatnam and 103km from Vijayawada.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Bheemavaram had a population of 137,327. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Bheemavaram has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 77% and female literacy of 69%. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Padma bhusan B.V.Raju, an expert in cement and who worked as Chairman in Cement Corporation of India during 1970's and who established Raasi and Vishnu cement industries hail from this place. Dr B.Subba Raju, a civil Engineer and Director of Central Road Research Insitute , New Delhi during 1970's and Dr V.S. Raju ,Professor of Ocenography at IIT,Madras and Director,Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi during 2000, Well reKnowned cardiologist Dr. B.Soma Raju,Director, CARE Hospital at Hyderabad are from this town.
Padma Vibhushan DrA.S.Rao, Founder of ECIL at Hyderabad also hails from this place.
DNR College founded by Mr. Dantuluri Narayana Raju and Sri Sagi Rama Krishna Raju Engineering College founded by Sri. Sagi Rama Krishna Raju also the founder of the Engineering and Construction company Prasad and Company are located in this town. Total Town and Surroundings Conatins 2 Engineering Colleges, famous Graduate and Post Gradudate colleges and one Dental Medical College

Great Scientist Dr.Yellapragada Subbarao who invented more than 50 madicines(including Plague) was born in this town. Bhimavaram is well known for its aqua culture and paddy fields in its surrounded villiages , it is the centre of trade for more than 300 villiages.
