Bezonvaux

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bezonvaux is a commune of the Meuse département, in northeastern France.

Since the end of the Battle of Verdun in 1916, it has had a population of 0 along with Beaumont-en-Verdunois, Haumont-près-Samogneux, Louvemont-Côte-du-Poivre, Cumières-le-Mort-Homme and Fleury-devant-Douaumont.

After the war the area was completely destroyed and the land was made uninhabitable, to such an extent that a decision was made not to rebuild it. The commune was maintained as a testimony to these villages which "died for France" as they were officially titled. However, the commune is managed by a municipal council of three members by the préfet of the Meuse département.
