Bettina Bunge

Bettina Bunge (born June 13, 1963) is a German tennis player. She was born in Adliswil, Switzerland, plays right-handed and is 1.73 m (5 ft 8 in) tall and weighs 56.6 kg (125 lb).

With German nationality as the daughter of a German businessman, she was born in Switzerland, and resided in Peru for more than 13 years. She was national champion in Peru at the age of 13 years. Later she moved to Miami, Florida. She speaks three languages, German, English and Spanish. With a good level of game, she had bad luck with the injuries (injuries of ear and knee, among others). She was part of the German Armada in the 80's with other players like Claudia Kohde-Kilsch, Sylvia Hanika, Eva Pfaff, Claudia Porwick, and Steffi Graf.

She was professional player from 1978 to 1989, appearing for the first time in number 150 in the month of July. She reached in the ranking of the WTA the position number 6 in June of 1982.

  • She won the tournaments of the German Open, Houston and Tokyo in 1982, and Oakland in 1983.
  • She was finalist in Sydney in 1979, Stockholm in 1980, Houston, Tampa, Cincinnati (indoor) and Tokyo in 1981, Mahwah in 1982 and The Belgian Open in 1987.

  • She won the tournaments of Pan Pacific in Tokyo with Steffi Graf in 1986 and The Belgian Open with Manuela Maleeva in 1987.
  • She was finalist in The German Open with Claudia Kohde-Kilsch in 1982, in The Swiss Open with Eva Pfaff in 1985, and The New England also with Eva Pfaff in 1987.
