Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio

Bethel Township is a rural township located in Southeastern Miami County, Ohio. The township is home to three unincorporated villages: Brandt, Phoneton and West Charleston. In 2000, the population of the township was recorded as 4,927 individuals.
Bethel Township was settled in 1807. The township's first settlement was in Livingston, near the confluence of Honey Creek and the Great Miami River. The township's development was spurred by the National Road (U. S. Route 40) starting in the 1820s. Ancestors of Wilbur and Orville Wright settled in Bethel Townhship, Miami County and their remains are interred at Bethel East Cemetery south of Phoneton.
Students in Bethel Township attend Bethel Local Schools or Miami East Local Schools in Casstown, Ohio or Techumseh Local Schools in New Carlisle, Ohio.
The township is governed by three elected, non-partisan trustees. The township's finances are controlled by an elected, non-partisan clerk. The general affairs of the township are managed by an appointed township administrator.
