From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beth Bye is an American politician from Connecticut who, in January 2007, will be sworn in as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives.

The current Vice Chair of the West Hartford School Board, she was elected to the legislature in November 2006, from the state's 19th district, covering West Hartford. She defeated Republican Barbara Carpenter, a member of the town council, by a margin of 57% to 43% and was therefore elected to succeed longtime Republican incumbent Bob Farr.

Bye is a long-time resident of West Hartford and was first elected to the school board in 2001. She also serves on the board of the Connecticut Children’s Museum of Science and Discovery, and is the former director of two area preschools.

A lesbian, Bye will become one of the only openly gay members of the Connecticut General Assembly. Her campaign won the backing of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund.
