User talk:Bestghuran

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Bestghuran! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic'Acid 22:06, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image license tags

Hi, when you upload images, please specify a license tag for them to show it's legal to use them in Wikipedia. For ice hockey team logos, you should select Fair use -> Logo from the License list or write {{logo}} on the description page. Thank you. Mysid (talk) 06:36, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

Please read the above paragraph. Mysid (talk) 07:11, 22 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] NHL Uniforms

What are their license? If you just swiped them from nhluniforms.com then I would say you're in a very grey area. If you did them yourself and are offering them up, then I for one would be interested. There are others that might disagree. ccwaters 00:08, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

I too like the idea of uniforms on the pages, but the licencing is important. Masterhatch 01:47, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Nothing grey about it, it's definitely black, if. RGTraynor 05:48, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Hey sorry, I didn't notice your reply the other day. Show us what you got over at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Ice_Hockey/Team_pages_format. ccwaters 12:15, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:BC Lions 1953-1968.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:BC Lions 1953-1968.gif. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Alr 14:16, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Old CFL.gif has been listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Old CFL.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

--Bash 04:31, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

Why do you keep uploading images without sources or proper copyright tags? Image:BC Lions 1953-1968.gif and Image:1td.jpg were deleted as per the letter of the law and you still reuploaded them without proper copyright information. Images cannot be uploaded unless their source is disclosed, period. Your claims of "fair use" are impossible to verify. The other images you uploaded without tags are also impossible to verify.

If you provide the sources for the images, then their status can be verified, and they become harder for admins to delete. It's that simple.

I strongly suggest you read Wikipedia:Copyrights, Wikipedia:Fair use, and Wikipedia:Image use policy.

I'm sorry if I sound a bit harsh, but Wikipedia needs to take copyright seriously in order to avoid getting sued. Alr 18:18, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image source/licensing for Image:CFL Alouettes 86.gif

The image you uploaded, Image:CFL Alouettes 86.gif, has no source information. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. Unless the copyright status is provided, the image will be marked for deletion on 24 October 2005.

Bestghuran, you seem to treat "fair use" like an invitation to upload as many images as you can to Wikipedia. Fair use is a court defense, not a right. It is applicable only to certain, limited circumstances. I would guess that 80%-90% of the images you've uploaded are not fair use and are probably copyright violations. Please don't upload any more images unless you understand the policies. It creates tension and animosity in the community and leaves Wikipedia open to legal action. I have seen too many good-faith editors get branded as "untouchables" because they made mistakes then they added pictures to Wikipedia, and I would prefer you don't get the same treatment. Alr 18:22, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image use and MOS

When inserting images into a page, please conform to WP:MOS. In particular, team logos should not be sized at 100px when they are used (logos used on most other sports are limited to at most 25px), and tables should only be used for tabular data and not for layout. kelvSYC 05:56, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Old Argos stuff

Unfortunately, I'm not really up on that period of CFL history...a bit before my time and I haven't looked into it much. Sorry I couldn't help. Lord Bob 18:35, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] All of your image uploads

For all images you have uploaded, please provide information on exactly where you got them from. If from a website, please provide the url. If you scanned them yourself, please say so. Also, are they copyrighted? If so, tag them with {{fairuse}}. Are they licensed under a licence such as the {{GFDL}} or a Creative Commons licence? Are they in the Public domain ({{PD}})? Please provide this information on all images you have uploaded, because they will be deleted otherwise. Ingoolemo talk 05:29, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Response to logos

Note: this comment is part of a synchronised thread. You can reply by clicking the [edit] link next to the comment's heading, or following this link. To ensure that you can see any further responses I make, add this page to your watchlist. Once you have replied, feel free to remove this boilerplate. Go to the list of CFL seasons and in my references you will see the website. User talk:Bestghuran

I have looked up the website, and I have seen its disclaimer statement, according to which:
  • All logos depicted at this site should be regarded as being the property of the respective team or league. You should absolutely not try to make money by printing these helmet images onto something and then selling it. Nor do you have the right to use these images for financial gain. [1]
Because of this caveat, the images are almost certainly unavailable for commercial use, and therefore incompatible with Wikipedia, unless tagged with {{fairusein}}. I am beginning the tagging process now. Ingoolemo talk 19:10, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Okay, all the images are taken care of. Cheers, Ingoolemo talk 19:28, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I agree...I am especially interested in where you got the NHL uniform pictures, because I think the remainder of related articles should also include such pictures. Clarkefreak 03:01, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article creation

I have been looking through the list of unwatched pages (available only to administrators) and found 1951 in Canadian football. I see that you created this but were not watching it. You may want to go to your preferences and under the "editing" tab turn on "Add pages you edit to your watchlist". This will enable you to keep an eye out for any edits that are made to pages you create and help to revert vandalism. If you do decide to turn it on can you please drop me a note on my talk page so I can cut down my excessive watchlist (6000+). Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 18:33, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi. You tagged the above image as a stamp, but it doesn't appear to be so. The website you retrieved it from doesn't explicitly say that the images are copyrighted (as far as I am able to tell), but the copyright is assumed. I have tagged the image as missing the appropriate copyright tag, so if that image is really available freely, please make the correct changes. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 05:58, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unblock request

I have contributed a lot to this website, it is unfair that I am blocked with May 4 as my expiry, then May 5, then May 6 and now indefinite. I have only did one thing that was a disagreement to certain people this does not mean I should be blocked forever. I have created several pages and even completed pages that were listed as stubs that were my contributions to this site. Can one of you administrators please unblock me, so I can do other work. My IP address is 24.87.77.241. Please include this address, along with your username (Bestghuran), in any queries you make.

Inedfinite means just that, no definite end date. The block has been indenfinite since it was imposed on May 2, I guess the reason you've seen other dates is that you have tried to log out and edit as logged out user or with a different account. This cause the autoblocker to block the IP address for 24 hours at a time, it does this to stop people trying to evade blocks. However the original blocker has since lifted the block and there don't appear to be any auto blocks outstanding so you should be ok now. (There is a small risk an autoblock will activate again, in which case use the unblock tag or email the original blocker (or both)). --pgk(talk) 09:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

{{unblock|[[User:Pgk|pgk]], I am still blocked even when I am logged in. When I was logged in as Bestghuran they [[User:Cyde|Cyde]] said I was blocked until May 4, then on, on, when I was logged in and then it was indefinite. The point of the matter is I am still blocked as of now when I log in.}} 07:47, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Try again, --pgk(talk) 16:20, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Indefinate block

I don't know the details of what you did, but an indefinate block seems way too harsh to me. You definitely have contributed an amazing amount of material related to the CFL to Wikipedia. I have left a message with the admin that blocked you. Let me know (by editting this page) if you need any assistance. Tnikkel 06:53, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey Tnikkel thanks man for trying to help, listen if I am still blocked let me know if you want any information to complete the CFL seasons. Oh yeah by the way the two Winnipeg Grey Cup games in the 90's the stadium was known as Winnipeg Stadium until the 21st century. 07:42 Pacific, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Oh yeah and tell whoever is changing the logos from center to right, tell him to put them on the left. Also if he sees other logos like CFL USA and Radically Canadian to put keep them center on the top and put the main logos on the left.

Anyways if you want to now the details in what I did. I recently did zoo and aquarium articles that are from Canada some improved and some I created and one I found uncategorized. What happened they had two categories Zoos in Canada and Aquaria in Canada, I thought it would be best that they had a category for Zoos and Aquariums of Canada, because I thought having one category under that section would be best than having two, because it is similar. They deleted that category without notice so I reverted it, because I was not given an explanation why. Then I put their categories under delete we had an argument over it and they said that we have to keep it separate, because the other categories about zoos and aquaria in other countries are separate. But to see the hypocrisy about it if you look at both Zoos in Canada and Aquaria in Canada, Montreal Biodome and Marineland were put under both different categories, they recently changed Marineland, because I complained about that. Also the similar complaints they had of me they were doing the same thing. Any ways I don't want to drag on here, but I made concessions, but I asked them let's talk about making all the categories like this into one category not only for Canada, but for other countries like they stated. I was then blocked to even continue discussions. 8:04 Pacific, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Apologies

Hey, sorry for that whole blocking business. What I should have told you earlier is that a decision was made on WP:CFD to remove those categories. This decision was reflected in the edit summaries of all of the edits Cydebot (talk contribs) was making. In the future, please don't revert en masse changes made with the consensus of the community. {{unblock|Hi again, I would like to inform [[User:Snoutwood|Snoutwood]] that I can't be IP 24.64.223.203, that he is talking about. Even though this is my IP Address while I am at university, the cable modem was offline since February and was reconnected about 30 minutes ago. I have never put my personal information on any site, because I would never reveal my personal stuff online. Whoever is doing it is not thinking in my opinion. However I am not the guy that is doing that.}} 19:00 Pacific, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

It looks like you unfortunately share an IP address with a notorius sockpuppet. Hopefully the admins can sort this out so that blocking that user doesn't have too much of a negative effect on other users. Tnikkel 02:51, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
You've most likely been autoblocked, but that should've expired by now. Can you edit yet? Sorry for the trouble. Snoutwood (talk) 05:08, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
You need to give full details of the block message you get, otherwise we don't know which particular block you are caught up in and cannot do anything about it. --pgk(talk) 21:17, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

In the future if you get accidentally blocked you might want to email the admin that issued the block, you might get a quicker response. To do this goto the user's page, and on the left there will be an "E-mail this user" link. Tnikkel 03:54, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Team logos

Fair use images are not allowed for decoration. A logo should only appear on the article about it. For more information please see WP:FU. Thanks, ed g2stalk 16:16, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

There were so many violations the only effective way to fix it was with AWB, removing all images. If you want to restore the per-year logos for the competition that may be okay. Also you might want to fix your sig, its user_talk:... . Tahnks, ed g2stalk 17:16, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
As your edits are in the history, I have made the cleanup taks no greater. Also the logo Image:Cfl logo-60s.jpg should not be used on the league pages in the 60s. It may be used on the article CFL in a section about the history of the logo or the league, but not to decoartion each page 1960-69 CFL season. Also please sign your comments like this: ~~~~. Thanks, ed g2stalk 17:31, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
There is also a signature button above the edit box (third from the right). Hope this helps. ed g2stalk 17:33, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Gc2000.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kimchi.sg 16:48, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Don't remove image cleanup tags without giving valid source and licensing information. It is absolutely unacceptable. Jkelly 19:46, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Chicago Blackhawks.gif)

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Chicago Blackhawks.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. feydey 10:17, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] CFL USA

The CFL USA got deleted because someone copied most of it from some website. I will be recreating this article, I hope that you can add any info you may have to the page so it can be at least as good as it was before. Tnikkel 09:01, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Grey Cup images

I fixed all the Grey Cup images except for the 84th Grey Cup page; it appears that logo got deleted. I asked the admin who deleted it to undelete it.

I'm not totally sure what the problem was, but next time it happens to you try this. Delete the whole Image thing ([[Image:...]]), and make sure there are no spaces directly before or after the Image tag. Then type the image tag out, copy the image name from the top of the image's page. Thats what I did and it worked. Tnikkel 22:22, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need to be removed from autoblocking

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reasons:

Autoblock of 24.64.223.203 lifted, I think. Toolserver is down, so it's difficult to find autoblocks, today -- let me know if you have any more problems. Sorry for the trouble!

[edit] Grey Cup Articles

As you've noticed, I have been working on trying to make new articles for older Grey Cup games and to edit the existing ones, most of which were very journalistic in style. I noticed that 82nd Grey Cup had a tag to that effect. I made some suggestions of how we can improve the style on the talk page for that article in order to get the tag removed. I would like to discuss these with you to see if we can reach some consensus (I would have written earlier but I needed some help to find your talk page). We could discuss it right on the talk page of the article.--Bolognaking 16:13, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
