This is a character from the best-selling Guardians of Ga'Hoole series by Kathryn Lasky.
Bess, a Boreal Owl, is mentioned in the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book, The Capture. She is Grimble's daughter, and was referred to as "Little Bess" since her father had not seen her since she was a hatchling. Supposedly, after Grimble was imprisoned in St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls, Bess and her mother mysteriously disappeared.
Recently, Bess's name was mentioned in the summary for Guardians of Ga'Hoole Book #13, The River of Wind. This highly suggests that she will actually appear in either The Golden Tree or The River of Wind, both of which are set to be released in 2007. If the above is true, then Bess will have become a fully fledged adult Boreal Owl and even be somewhat older or around the same age as Soren, the main character of the Guardians of Ga'Hoole series.
