Berowra Waters Inn
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Berowra Waters Inn is a restaurant located at Berowra Waters along the Hawkesbury River in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, 50 minutes from downtown Sydney, Australia.
Originally, Berowra Waters Inn was a guest house dating back to the 1930s. In 1976, Berowra Waters Inn was bought by Tony Bilson and Gay Morris. In 1984, Glenn Murcutt did a major redesign of the property. While doing the construction, Murcutt discovered Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal) midden remains near the property which were radiocarbon dated to be as old as 10,000 years old.
In the late 1980's Berowra Waters Inn became the only Michelin Guide 3 starred venue in the Southern Hemisphere. Due to the difficulty of maintaining and running the business during the 1990s recession it became unviable and the property was finally sold in 1997. In 2001 the property was purchased and reconstructed by 2003.
The menu changes frequently but is a "mix of classic French and Modern Australian." [1]
Due to heavy maintenance/renovations, the restaurant is closed until early 2007. [2]
