Beonex Communicator was a fork of the Mozilla Application Suite. It was created as an end-user product, because of the original statement of the Mozilla Organization that the Mozilla Application Suite was only for testing purposes and was not meant for end users. Beonex was meant to provide the documentation and support necessary for an end-user project.

On March 2, 2004, Ben Bucksch of Beonex Business Services announced that no new releases were planned until the Mozilla Foundation decided its future policy. In 2005, the Mozilla Foundation officially changed its policies and created the Mozilla Corporation to provide end-user support.

Beonex Business Services may continue to offer consulting, development and support services related to Beonex Communicator.

The latest release is Beonex Communicator 0.8.2-stable. It is based on Mozilla 1.0.2 and is available for Windows, Linux, and FreeBSD. Mac OS X is still at 0.8.1-stable. The currently available Beonex Communicator 0.8 builds have several known security bugs. Beonex advises its users to use the current builds available from mozilla.org.
