Talk:Bendigo Petition
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While Wikipedia has a very thorough entry on regarding the Eureka Stockade, it contained no references to the closely related agitation for democratic representation and limits to excessive taxation by way of 'License Fees' that had been occurring across the various Victorian goldfields since 1851.
The Forest Creek Monster Meeting in 1851 was the earliest recorded instance of such agitation. It was followed by the Bendigo Petition and Red Ribbon Rebellion, both of which occurred in 1853, for which I have also created entries.
I am sure that more experienced wikiists would have produced more elegant entries, however at least there is now some information regarding these events on Wikipedia.
