Bennion Junior High

Bennion Junior High School is in Taylorville, Utah, and belongs to the Granite School District. Its mascot is the Bobcats.[1] The current principal is Mary Rhodes, EdD. With grades 7th through 9th (9th grade being considered High School, it's still located in the Junior High building). Bennion Junior High is located in the southwest part of Granite District and in about the middle of the Salt Lake Valley. The school opened in 1980. For the most part, Bennion Junior students come from fairly stable middle-class homes. The 1,000 student represent a variety of cultures. Bennion has a very strong and wonderful Student Government this year. With cheerleaders (Brooke Cockayne, Shelby Letcher, Kelsie Marshall, Tran Vo, Jessica Gowers, Sarah Ramirez, Alex Smith, Stephanie Baker, McCall Parrish, Amanda Smith), senators(MATTHEW PHILLIPS), student body officers(Rebecca Powell, Tyson Albertson, Colton Balmforth, Kevin Carrington, Stephanie Lilly, Jessica Palomino), and a peer leadership team, it has planned a number of dances, clubs, and activites that make this school one of the most enoyable junior highs in the county. Their Boys Volleyball team is competing in the championship game on October 30, 2006.

Bennion serves approximately 1,000 students. Our ethnic breakdown is: Caucasian - 82% Asian - 3% Native American - 0% Hispanic - 11% Pacific Islander - 4% Black

Bennion has a number of computers throughout the building that are also available for teacher and student use. Bennion Jr. High has 5 computer labs. Students have access to computers for research in the media center.

[edit] Extracurricular programs:
Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Cross Country, Wrestling, Golf, Soccer, and Academic Games. An intramural program. Students can participate in chorus, band, orchestra, drama, and dance as part of their regular classes. We have student officers and cheerleaders.
