Benjamin Elijah Mays High School

Benjamin Elijah Mays High School is a public school located in southwest Atlanta, Georgia. Established in September 27, 1981, it was supposedly built to replace the old Southwest High School (currently Young Middle School). As of August 2006 Tyronne Martin Smith, J.D., Ph.D. is the principal.

The mission of Benjamin Elijah Mays High School is to maintain the highest level of academic excellence as a community in order to prepare every student to become life-long learners as well as productive citizens.

Every student is a part of one of five Small Learning Communites: Academy of Science and Math, Academy of Business Entrepreneurship, Academy of Mass Communication, Academy of Applied Sciences and Academy of Public Policy. The purpose of the Small Learning Communities is to help ensure that all students graduate with knowledge and skills necessary to make successful transitions to college and careers.

The Mays High School Raiders athletic teams compete in Class 6AAAA of the Georgia High School Association.
Mays High offers a wide variety of athletic programs including Varsity Boys Track, Varsity Boys Soccer, Varsity Football, Varsity Boys Basketball,Junior Varsity Boys Basketball, Varsity Girls Basketball,Junior Varsity Girls Basketball,Varsity Basketball Cheerleading, Junior Varsity Basketball, Cheerleading, Varsity Boys Swimming, Varsity Girls Volleyball, Varsity Girls Swimming, as well as many others. All home Varsity Football games, as well as track events are held at Lakewood Stadium.
