Ben Goertzel

Ben Goertzel, Ph.D., born December 8, 1966, is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Science Officer (CSO) at Novamente LLC[1], a privately held AI software company focused on Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Dr. Goertzel graduated with his Ph.D. in math from Temple University in 1989. From 1997 until 2001, he was the founding chairman and Chief Technology Officer of Webmind Inc. (also known as Intelligenesis Corp.). He has also held several academic faculty positions at several universities in the areas of mathematics, computer science, and psychology.

Dr. Goertzel is the author of numerous research papers and journalistic articles. These include a biography of Linus Pauling, and five scholarly books dealing with topics in the cognitive sciences, including:
- The Structure of Intelligence: A New Mathamatical Model of Mind (Springer, 1993)
- Chaotic Logic: Language, Thought and Reality From the Perspective of Complex Systems Science (Plenum Press, 1994)
- Creating Internet Intelligence (Plenum Press, 2001).
The most recent publication of his is Artificial General Intelligence: Cognitive Technologies (Springer, 2005), which was co-edited by Dr. Goertzel, and describes the mathematics underpinning the Novamente AI Engine.
